The official eligibility criteria for the NEET 2026 will be released by the NTA soon on its official website. Nationality
All Indian Nationals are eligible for the NEET exam. The candidates belonging to the NRI, OCI, PIO, and Foreign Nationals categories are also eligible for the NEET 2026 application.
Educational Qualification
The candidates who have passed class 12th with a minimum aggregate of 50% for the general category (45% for the reserved category) in subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are eligible for the application. The candidates appearing for the Class 12th board examination in 2026 are eligible for the NEET exam.
Age
The minimum age of the candidates filling out the NEET application form 2026 is 17 years as of December 31st 2026. Therefore, the candidates born on or after 2009 can appear for the NEET exam 2026. NEET 2026 Counselling Process
The NEET counselling starts after the NEET result declaration. MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) conducts NEET counselling for which the details are shared on the official website. The counselling is subdivided into two broad categories: All India Quota (15% of seats in all state colleges and 100% seats in central government colleges) and State Counselling (85% of seats in all state government colleges). The All India Counselling is conducted by MCC, whereas the state counselling is conducted by the state education cell or authority.
The details of the NEET 2026 Counselling process are as follows:
- Registration: The candidates who passed the NEET exam and surpassed the cut-off marks are required to register for the NEET counselling via the MCC official website.
- Choice Filling: After registration, the candidates are required to select the desired college and course according to their choice and fill out the choice filling form. Recheck the preference, as they will get the seat as per their preference.
- Seat Allocation: The seat allocation is done based on the choice filling, the seats left, and the number of seats available for the rank, etc.
- Seat Upgrade: If the candidate wants to upgrade the seat, he can wait for the next round after freezing the seat allocated previously.
- Mop-Up Round or Stray Vacancy Round: If the seats are left after the counselling process, the last round of mop-up is done, where the counselling is conducted for the leftover seats.
